If you wish to leave a gift to Bridgnorth Endowed School, we strongly advise you to consult your solicitor when preparing or amending our Will. If you already have a Will, you can easily include Bridgnorth Endowed School through the addition of a Codicil. A version of suggested wording is below:
“I give a legacy of £X (or a share of the Residue of my Estate) to the Headmaster and Governors of Bridgnorth Endowed School (Registered Charity Number 1125132) for the general purposes of the said School, and I declare that the receipt of the Director of Business and Finance or other authorised officer for the time being of the School shall be a good and sufficient discharge for my Trustees.”
If you wish the money to be used for specific purposes, this should be discussed with the Director of Business and Finance before executing the Will.
There are several ways to leave a gift through your Will. The main types of legacy are:
A Residuary Legacy: leaves all or a percentage share of your estate to the School once all other expenses, legacies and taxes have been taken care of.
A Pecuniary Legacy: leaves a specified, fixed amount of money. This can be index-linked to protect the value of the gift against inflation.
A Specific Legacy: leaves a specific possession to the School such as land, property, shares and works of art.
A Reversionary Legacy: leaves certain assets to a chosen beneficiary for their lifetime, after which a part or all of them revert to Bridgnorth Endowed School.
There are a number of other types of legacies that you can give. Your solicitor will be able to advise you.
